H55 created the visual identity, invitation pack and publication for ‘We’, a group art exhibition at the NUS Museum which explores the production of collective identities and its relation to place, culture and nation.
We began to represent the idea of collectiveness by first designing a ‘political’ symbol of sorts for ‘We’, although this was entirely out of our scope of work. To express “We”, the symbol uses the letter “W” to illustrate 3 beings, and was used to represent the artists taking part in the exhibition.
As the title “We” is inspired the the Singapore pledge and therefore connotes issues relating to national identity, the book pages use text separation lines synonymous with the national newspapers at the time. The pink section at the back of the book consists of blown up footnotes, which the curators thought were equally or if not, more important than the rest of the book.
