IN PLAIN WORDS is a writing studio which provides editorial and writing services. Our objective was to design a logo which represents IN PLAIN WORDS’ mission: to make textual information accessible, clear and easy to understand.
The logo expresses the narrative of how the studio creates order out of chaos, and clarity out of complexity in their approach to writing. This is done by using the letters ‘I-N-P-L-A-I-N-W-O-R-D-S’ to derive both its chaotic/unreadable symbol and its orderly/legible logotype, and in doing so, creating a contrast between the two.
The In Plain Words self-promotional poster features eight writing samples, which were typeset in eight different serif typefaces to suggest that they were commissioned by various magazines/websites.
